The high school recently put on “Mean Girls” at the Jeanette Llyod Theater at the beginning of November, but a show is a lot more than just the actors on stage. There’s a whole crew of people behind-the-scenes who are working to make the show a success.
Senior Lillian Webb is an long-time “techie.” A “techie” is a person who stays after school to help out with the technical side of any show that they might produce.
Lillian thinks that other people should consider taking theater tech because it is something many people enjoy and want to be a part of.
“It’s something that all people might like,” Webb said.
“This class is for students that want to do any type of building or just hands-on activities,” Master Carpener Zac Matz said.
Matz is another theater tech student who is also played a big behind-the-scenes role for “Mean Girls”. As Master Carpenter, he makes sure that all of the structures and sets are safe for all of the actors in the play.
Junior Ava Chandler, is relatively new to theater tech and is glad she’s in it.
Students are in the class for a variety of reasons. Chandler’s friends brought her into the theater. Webb likes to be part of theater tech and joined it because of both of her uncles and grandfather. Matz’s friends who have recently graduated were the people who got him into theater tech.
Robert Winter, Technical Director and Teacher, has been associated with theater for around 20 years.
Bob has made some of peoples’ favorite shows like: “Shrek”, “Moon Over Buffalo”, “Lion King”, “High School Musical: the Musical”, and, the most recent one, “Mean Girls”.
Students who want to join can sign up during registration next semester for the 2025-2026 school year.
