The FHS Boys Bowling team started their 2024-2025 season last month, and many of the bowlers set big goals for themselves this season.
“I want to bowl in the Top-16 Tournament and to get at least top three in the conference,” Junior Charlie Wiedmeyer said.
Junior Conner Lamm hopes to make it past the Regional competition. “Unfortunately we were eliminated there, so definitely making it to Sectionals as a team is a goal for me,” Junior Conner Lamm said. “The NIC-10 is a very difficult conference to do well in and last year we got third place in it. We are very capable of competing with the big guys like Harlem and Hononegah. We will be better this year and we will make it farther this year.”
To achieve these goals, the bowlers want to improve their team through better communication.
“We have not been the greatest about communication, but this year it’s definitely getting better so that’s something that I want to make sure that we are continuing on building upon over the next year,” Lamm said.
As an individual, Lamm hopes to improve his spare game.
Coach John Kreeger hopes to improve team culture by having the bowlers learn to get along with each other better.
A lot of the bowlers started after being invited to practice in fifth grade.
“I started bowling because my friend Conner Lamm invited me to practice one day and I just got really interested in it,” Wiedmeyer said.
“I started bowling because it was brought to me in fifth grade and I knew a few people on the team already, so it was always kind of something that was kind of natural to me,” Lamm said. “I’m glad that I am sticking with it.”
“I like the way the pins fall. It’s satisfying,” Wiedmeyer said. “The way the ball rolls and sometimes the celebration we get a high score too, it’s also really nice.”
Coach Kreeger has been coaching the team for 28 years.
“I enjoy working with the kids and there was an opening on the boys bowling team, so I took the opportunity,” Coach Kreeger said. “I enjoy seeing the progress in the boys from freshman year to senior year.”
The Pretzels have their next home meet on December 21 at the Four Seasons Bowling Center.
