This year, the Freeport High School Varsity Cheer team has pushed the limits and strived to make their mark on this program. These eight individuals and three coaches continue to make history by putting the pedal to the floor and racing towards the top.
The Pretzels varsity cheer team debuted their race car theme routine at the first-ever showcase here at Freeport High School! This showcase involved performances from the freshman, junior varsity, varsity, and middle school cheer teams. They also invited all alumni to join in the singing and dancing of “On Freeport.” This showcase was an unforgettable experience and an absolute success as it kicked off the competition season of these teams while celebrating school spirit within the community.
Throughout their season, our varsity girls placed in the top half in all but two of their competitions. They took home three trophies this year including a first-place trophy at the Belvidere Winter Classic and receiving the highest score in school history there!
This team brought home more trophies in one season than in the past ten years! These girls even accomplished placing fifth in the NIC-10 Conference. These remarkable girls are excelling past their family, friends, and even their own coaches’ expectations.
Head coach Nacia Patterson says, “This team has had a very open-minded, growth mindset this season and have been willing to push the goals they set for themselves at the beginning of the season. I am beyond proud that even with tough practices this team was willing to trust in me to help guide them to success.”
However, these girls are not finished yet! This weekend this squad will perform their amazing routine one last time at Sectionals in Grayslake North. They will walk into Sectionals with the mission to qualify for state. We wish our lady Pretzels cheer team the best of luck! Let us pack the stands and fuel them with Pretzels Pride!
