The Freeport Pretzels defeat the Boylan Titans for the first time in 10 years last Friday at Boylan High School during the first match-up of the season.
Freeport lost 14 seniors from the previous season and had to rebuild their team throughout the summer.
“In the summer, everyone was sort of acting selfish. Then on Friday, especially during the second half, there was a lot of teamwork. They played with each other and not for themselves,” Coach Jack Kurtz, the defensive coordinator, said.
After turning the ball over 3 times, Boylan was up 14-6 at half time.
During the second half, they didn’t turn the ball over at all and only allowed Boylan 4 offensive yards.
“I don’t know what flipped or what changed but we came around and knew what we had to do, which was to score and stop them from scoring. We just came out, put on a good performance and did what we all knew we could do,” Davion Douglas, senior, said.
And the Pretzels did just that and came out with an 18-14 win.
The next game is September 5th at home against Belvidere North.
