In the first quarter, Freeport got a stop on defense while Belvidere was on the 50-yard-line to kick-off the game.
When Freeport got the ball, Quarterback Thomas Olson got a rushing touchdown for the first touchdown of the game. Freeport converted for 2 points. At the end of the first quarter, Pretzels 8-0.
Once Belvidere had the ball back during the second quarter, Ben Summers sacked Belvidere’s quarterback for a loss of five yards.
Belvidere got no first-downs in the second quarter. Pretzels had possession of the ball for 6 straight minutes. Pretzels 8-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Thomas Olson threw a pass to Davion Douglas for 37-yards. Then, Epps ran for a 14-yard touchdown in the next play of the game. Pretzels didn’t get the two-point conversion.
Pretzels still winning 14-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Javeion Fane caught a 19-yard catch. Followed by a 54-yard touchdown by Ben Summers in the biggest play of the game right up the middle.
Two plays later with Belvidere possession, De’merion Douglas intercepted the ball.
Belvidere didn’t score until the 4th quarter with 30 seconds left in the game. Belvidere tackled Danerieon Taylor for a safety. Belvidere scored a touchdown to end the game 20-9 with the Pretzels win.
“The whole team played decently,” Epps said. “We have a long way to go to get to where we need to be. I’m glad we won.”
“The Pretzel defense prevented Belvidere from scoring for 47 out of 48 minutes of the game,” Defensive Coordinator Jack Kurtz said. “It felt good to take care of business.”
The Pretzels face Auburn High School this Saturday at Auburn.
