A new assistant principal, Rosemarie Brubaker, started in curriculum and instruction at Freeport High School this school year after transferring from Freeport Middle School.
Brubaker came to the high school because she heard good things about it and wanted to join a good team of people. She was excited to come to here because she had already worked with some of the teachers and she knew most of the students from the middle school.
“The students are awesome,” Brubaker said. “I love the energy that’s in the Freeport High School. The Freeport Middle School has different energy that is awkward, but the Freeport High School has energy that is positive and the staff in general has made me not regret anything I’ve done.
She really wants to hone in on important testing. One of her goal is for students to take the ACT more seriously by improving critical thinking and problem solving. She wants to help students understand that taking the ACT is more than just a test, its a life skill.
“The better you are at it, the less opportunities people will have to take advantage of you and the better you will be to advocate for what you need and your wants and goals in life,” Brubaker said.
Teachers said that once she has her mind set on something, she does everything she can to achieve it.
“Mrs. Brubaker from what I can see so far she’s been very inefficient,” English Teacher Michelle Hickmann said. “I had an issue in my AP class with trying to get things set up and I contacted her and she was on it instantly, so I was very impressed with that. Even emails with her she gets right back to me. When she doesn’t know something, she admits it and then she goes and finds out and takes care of it, so I’ve been very impressed with her.”
So far, Brubaker is happy with the change.
