Our Freeport NJROTC Rifle team took on schools around the region in Des Moines, Iowa on September 20th, 2025. They landed in 5th place, behind by 28 close points.
Our Rifle team included Teighan Muder, Dylan Colberg, Nevaeh Williams, Scarlett Walsh, Allie Goley, Kaiya Mennig, and Kat Mullen with instructors SCPO Jeffery Barteldt and CMC Melvin Isom.
CMC Isom said that the team can improve by having more time to shoot. He wants to give the Rifle Team cadets more time to practice, just like the other schools.
Dylan Colberg, the Rifle Team Commander, said “there could be more coaching during the practices helping the cadets that need help, so that the cadets can get better at shooting.”
Senior Chief Barteldt and CMC Isom have agreed to try and get the A team shooters on a four day shooting schedule to be able to get the shootings consistent over 520 points out of a full 600.
The cadets are hoping to make some improvements before their next competition on October 4 & 5th, 2025.
