The Freeport High School Boys Basketball Team talked about the upcoming basketball season, their coaches expectations, their personal and team goals, and the importance of off-season.
“Win conference obviously, and we want to get back to the regional championship and go as far as we can in the playoffs,” senior Andrew Seward said.
The team’s expectation is to win the conference and go farther than the regional championship. They hope to play better than last year and to not lose a lot of games, so they can go all the way to state.
Players also have personal goals they hope to achieve this season. Seward wants to go to state, Junior Demerion Douglas wants to make all conference, and junior Kazion Morehead wants to make the all state team, improve overall as a player, and become a better leader.
Key players lead the team to play better. According to players on the team, key players would be people who came back from last year like Kazion Morehead, Andrew Seward, some new players like Carl Smith, Gaven Buss, Dwayne Mosley Jr, and Demerion Douglas.
According to the players, their work in the off-season impacts the actual season by working on the players’ craft and weight lifting. They said playing with each other during the off-season brings more chemistry when the actual season comes, and it has to be taken seriously to get better.
“What you do in the off-season is definitely going to show when it’s time to play,” Morehead said.
“Playing more together in the off-season will bring more chemistry when it come to the actual season,” Douglas said.
“It has to be taken seriously so you won’t be mediocre in the actual season,” Seward said.
The first home game is Dec. 3 against the Belvidere Bucs.
