Freeport High School is starting a new online therapy session for the school community to help students who are struggling.
It’s an opportunity for students to talk to a therapist online, connect to a caring adult.
“I believe all students can benefit from this program,” Heal Academy Guidance Counselor Danielle Jackson said.
All students can benefit from the program. A lot of students feel like they can be suffering from anxiety or depression.
“I think every student should have someone to talk to and this program gives you that chance,” Jackson said.
Based on the assembly, a lot of students have depression or mental health issues.
At the assembly, Caleb Johnson, shared his own experiences struggling with mental health and expressed how we all mattered and were not alone.
“People don’t really talk about it,” junior Delavan Morgan said.
“People started crying and true emotions started showing,” senior Tyler Houston said. “Some people don’t like talking about their true feelings and feel like they have no one to talk about.”
Virtual therapy sessions have already started, and it’s available for students now. Students who are interested in virtual therapy can get a hold of the counselors and deans and any of those counselors can connect them to the virtual counselors.
“Every student needs the opportunity to talk to someone and if they don’t connect with an adult in their lives they can talk to a caring adult,” Jackson said.
