Students who can speak more than one language are eligible to earn the Seal of Biliteracy if they pass a test in the spring.
If students have the Seal of Biliteracy, certain jobs can give students a slight increase in pay and they can earn a minor in that language at college.
Freeport High School has administered the test for three years and more and more students have earned their seal each year. “The first year we had 2, the second we had 6, and the third we had close to 20,” Principal Sarah Hasken said.
For students who want to learn more, they can attend the Seal of Biliteracy meeting at the FHS library from 9:00 – 9:30 during advisory.
