Freeport High School just wrapped up its 2024 Homecoming, and a few disagreements followed. A common issue during Homecoming Week is the students’ dress-up days.
The themes for the homecoming week were;
Decades Day
Spirit Day
Jersey Day
Twin Day
Class Color
Many students said their favorite theme was Jersey Day, while others said they would remove Twin Day or Decades Day.
“I would remove twin day and make it a free day of school,” Kazion Morehead, a sophomore, said.
“The one thing I would change for the days would probably just be decades day,” Donavyn Fernandez, a senior, said.
Some popular suggestions included “Dress Like Your Type” day and “Anything but a Backpack.” “Dress Like Your Type” day is when students when you dress like the type of person you’d want to date. “Anything but a Backpack” day has students bring things like suitcases, laundry baskets, or wheelbarrows instead of a backpack.
These days either didn’t get enough votes or weren’t approved by administrators.
“I would want to do dress like your type day. I feel like that would be fun,” Breanna Simmons-Howard; a senior, said.
The homecoming dress-up days are picked each year by student council and approved by administrators.
“We send a list out to everyone in the Freeport High School so all the student body go on their class pages; they get to vote and then that list gets the top 4 to make the 4 days because there’s always a spirit day,” Haley Kurtz; student council advisor, said.
Students who have suggestions for next years dress-up days should contact their class president:
