You may know Ed as a substitute for Freeport High School, but did you know that he is much more than that?
Ed Schradermeier was born on June 9th, 1962. He began coaching tennis in 1989, and 10 years later, in 1999, he began teaching at Freeport High School.
As the Freeport boys tennis coach, Ed makes the line ups for the team, and works with the players to help them improve at the sport. He also ensures that everyone is always included, and having fun. Ed has been an amazing coach for the Freeport boys tennis team, and they couldn’t have done what they do without him.
Jack Kurtz, a former high school tennis player and current teacher at Freeport high school, said “my favorite part about Ed was how he made a point to have everyone get along, and have a sense of comradery amongst the team.”
Austin Veer, a 3 year high school tennis player, said “his sense of humor, and how funny he is what I enjoy most.”
Ed has also helped the Freeport communities in more ways than just coaching and teaching. He volunteered to help build the Little Cubs Field, and occasionally played as the umpire for the team.
When asked for a quote to summarize how he felt about coaching, he said, “I’d like for everyone to improve and have fun.”
Ed has brought joy and laughter to the faces of many people. He is more than just a substitute, he is an outstanding member of the Freeport community.
