Freeport High School’s National Honor Society hosts a “Dirty Soda” Fundraiser, the first ever of its kind in the school’s history to raise money for rebuilding efforts in Lena.
Originating in Utah, dirty sodas are a mixture of syrups, fruits, and creamer inside of a soda that have gained surging popularity on social media like TikTok and Instagram.
The fundraiser seeks to raise money for rebuilding efforts in Lena following the devastating tornado.
Rebecca Diehl, the originator of the idea, comments on the appeal of the dirty sodas: “We were thinking about what was trending on social media,” Diehl says, “and what would attract people to our cause, and that was dirty sodas.”
The group hopes to sell out and make a good first impression for the new event.
The menu offers a feature of graduation and end-of-year themed drinks: Final Bell Fizz, Senior Year Sipper, and Tassel Turner. Each drink costs $5 for a 24 oz cup.
FInal Bell Fizz is Sprite with a mixture of peach and strawberry syrup. Senior Year Sipper is a Dr. Pepper with vanilla and coconut cream. Tassel Turner is a Diet Coke with coconut cream and lime.
The National Honor Society will sell the sodas on May 13 until 7:30 a.m..
