Over the last week at three home games, students from Freeport High School have implemented a new way of cheering on the boys and girls basketball teams.
During the Freeport boys’ win over Boylan on Friday, February 6th, students Chace Krzeminski and Ashton Roelfs brought in the new idea of an ESPN table.
When asked where the idea came from, Krzeminski says “TikTok.”
The concept of the ESPN table is a mock broadcasting desk complete with computers, microphones, headsets, and notebooks to “cover” the game while also usually being dressed in suits.
On Wednesday February 11th, the boys played again at home vs Hononegah, so a new group of students tried out the ESPN table, this time led by Junior Dylan Kuntz.
Kuntz says, “Before, we didn’t really have any action during the student section, and just having this has really brought people together.”
Freeport Athletic Director Brad Pemberton says, “I think anything in the student section is awesome, it’s funny, they get all dressed up, and I think it’s great… it gives the student section something to be excited about.”
As the basketball season comes to its final weeks, the students are excited to continue the ESPN table to show school spirit and support their peers.
