After last year’s strong second-place conference finish, the Freeport High School Boys Bowling Team is starting its season with a bang.
The team has had constant practices to prepare them for the current season.
On Saturday, December 6th, the boys bowled at the Bowlero in Verona Hills, facing multiple different teams.
Shooting an average of 290, senior Connor Lamm says their goal is “to make state, since it’s been a while.”
With the team only graduating one person last year, their goals seem pretty achievable.
Last year’s regional run, placing 7th with both Ryan Knaack and Charlie Wiedmeyer each having over 1260 knocked and 5560 knocked as a team, it seems like these boys are prepared to fight.
Shooting an average of 190 senior, Mitchell Schneiderman says, “Our coach is very involved, and his advice is always helpful” when preparing for matches.
Lamm also mentions that “since bowling is such a mental sport, your team chemistry is extremely important”.
Multiple boys mention the extreme part that your team and coaches play on your mindset while bowling.
Widemeyer says, “You have to have fun; if you worry too much, it becomes not fun, which affects your game.”
These averages that the boys are pulling off play a major role in their competition.
Averages almost play a bigger role than a singular high, as they show consistency.
Coming into this season, they knew that expectations were high after last year’s success, so they used that to fuel the dedication we all see on this team.
With strong leadership, proven talent, and a positive team environment, the FHS Boys Bowling Team is well-positioned for a successful season.
