On February 14th, the FHS Speech Team qualified 5 out of the twelve events entered and 3 students for State. These 3 students were Lucas Viveros, Madaline Seal, and Naomi Sdao.
Viveros was awarded Second Place in two events: Informative Speaking and Special Occasion Speaking.
He said to prepare, “I’m doing what I’ve always done, just practicing with coaches and running my speeches since clearly this has worked out for me and gotten me this far.”
Viveros also says, “It feels good to qualify, it feels good to qualify for anything state-wise, and I’m just happy to have this opportunity.”
Sdao got Second Place in Oratorical Declamation and Third Place in Humorous Interpretation.
She says, “I’m in a very supportive environment, so once I get my schoolwork out of the way, all I have to worry about is running my speech.”
Seal got First Place in Poetry Reading, making her the Sectional Champion.
She says, “I’m honestly just so shocked, grateful, and excited, and I really just want to put in my best effort to do good, so I’m continuing to meet with coaches and running my speech a million times.”
On Saturday, February 21st, the three students will compete at the Peoria Civic Center in Peoria, Illinois, for a chance to place at the IHSA State Tournament.
