This past Saturday, Treyden Diduch won the IHSA State Wrestling competition in the 2A 106-pound division in Champaign.
Following a 34-2 record during the regular season, Diduch went on to win the Regional and Sectional competitions, making him a state qualifier.
We asked Diduch what this win means to him, to which he said, “I’ve been putting in hard work for about six years now, and it feels good to see it pay off.”
Diduch is the first men’s state wrestling champion since 2022 Markel Baker, and will now be remembered as one of Freeport’s state athletes.
“It was awesome to see him celebrate all his hard work paying off,” said Head Coach Nathan Arendt.
Freeport High School hosted a celebration in the gym to welcome the new State Champion back to his hometown.
The Freeport Pretzels are proud of Diduch for his dedication, discipline, and success, and can’t wait to see how far he goes in his next two years of high school.
