Do you spend a lot of time at home playing video games? Freeport High School has started an Esports Team, with hope to recruit more players to be able to play more games.
Some positives to joining Esports, are that people can join the Esports Team to compete alongside those who game in their spare time, while gaining experience in a team-based strategic setting.
Advisor Damian Helser says, “Esports has been growing more and more in recent years. I think this is a good way for those that want to compete, but can’t due to physical reasons or interest in other sports to have a chance to do so.”
Currently, the team has about 10 consistent players. There are two games for now, Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart 8. The team has interest in starting more games, like Mortal Kombat 1.
“If more people were to join the team with more growing interest, we can look at diversifying with more games that are offered in upcoming tournaments as well as potentially more equipment,” says Helser.
Practice is on Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 in the library. Anyone is welcome to come. For specific questions, email Damian Helser at [email protected]
