Haley Swords is a new building substitute for this school year at Freeport High School while she gets her degree as a special education teacher.
“I want to become a teacher because it’s a passion of mine,” she said. “I love teaching and the atmosphere and being able to help people.”
Some goals she’s trying to achieve this year are getting her degree. She started at Roosevelt University then went to Western Governor’s University to become a special education teacher. She choose special education because she feels that she’s better with students who have exceptionalities rather than general education students.
Swords wants to become a teacher because its her passion and because both her parents were educators.
She came back to Freeport because she said it’s home.
She’s continuing to be the building sub until she gets her degree in the spring than she’ll become a licensed teacher.
