This past weekend on December 13th, Freeport’s Speech team took 2nd Place in the Rochelle Tournament.
With twenty two members breaking finals, Freeport’s Cora Winter, and Johanna Everding stood out the most, taking first place in Dramatic Duet Acting.
The two of them had a lot of preparation that lead to their success.
“We met with many different coaches, and emphasized on contrasting different emotions within our speech,” says Everding and Winter.
To be successful in Dramatic Duet Acting, it is important to read the partner that you have your piece with.
Winter said, “Having worked on acting in the past, I can portray the mood with my partner and help create similar energy with my partner.”, and Everding saying “I was able to adapt quickly to an acting event despite not doing one before, and was also able to match the energy with my partner easily.”
Winter and Everding are not the only speakers who walked away satisfied with how the weekend went.
“I believe that members who seemed to put in the most time and effort to their speech, were the ones who were able to walk away with the most improvement,” said Coach Kleindl, “In order to see more of the result, I encourage kids to take the time that they have to improve their speech, and want the team to realize there is lots of time to improve, and speech is a marathon, rather than a sprint.”
Many members are looking to improve this week at their next Speech Tournament in Byron, and Freeport is only looking up for the rest of the season.
