On February 3, Freeport High School Senior Aaliyah Martin scored her 1,000th career point during the Lady Pretz Varsity game against the Hononegah Indians.
Martin accomplished this after suffering a season-ending injury in her Junior season when she tore her ACL.
Martin had to step into an even bigger role upon her return this season after Junior Paityn London tore her ACL mid-season.
Martin was asked, “What did you have to do to get this far in your basketball career?” She responded with, “Work the whole summer. While I was going through my ACL injury, I was just in the gym every day bettering myself.”
She had to put in a lot of work over the off-season to get back to the level she was playing at before her injury and accomplish her goal of 1,000 career points. After many grueling months, her hard work paid off, and she achieved that goal.
Martin said, “I was very relieved and accomplished. It felt like all my hard work finally paid off. Just knowing I was getting closer and closer to it. Once I finally hit it, it felt like a big weight was released off my chest.”
As the Lady Pretz finish up their conference play and head into the post-season, Martin will keep bringing in more points to finish out her Senior season.
