The McElroy twins push to make it to state this year after competing in last year’s state competition. Now, they want to make new records to bring home to Freeport High School.
Both Ta’Leiah and Ta’Niah have strong goals this year to qualify for state once again.
“My goal this year is to become faster than Ta’Leiah, and become first place in my heats.” Ta’Niah said.
“To qualify for state again, definitely for the four by one, four by two, and the hundred.” Ta’Leiah said.
Head Girls Track Coach Shane Orlow’s goals for the girls this year are to make sure they have the best experience on the track and field. He also hopes they set new personal records and break some school records.
“I’m hoping that we get to the blue track at Eastern Illinois the state meet, and we get as many kids down there as possible,” Orlow said.
The McElroy twins both run the 100, 200, 4×1, and 4×2.
This year they expect to work harder, being very strong, and becoming number one in the state.
This year’s team is a tough group. They are closely bonded with each other, and the freshmen are showing what they can bring for the team.
“Teams looking good right now, we were a little banged up, but we’re all starting to recover from our injuries,” Orlow said.
