The Freeport orchestra students held their final concert of the year on May 12 at the Jeanette Lloyd Theatre to celebrate their performances this year.
This concert is special because it features all the orchestra students from 6th to 12th grade, showcasing the growth of the orchestra program across all grades.
“It felt really different because I had to learn the high school part for generations while also learning to play it on a viola, so that was a really different experience,” said freshman violin player Elliot Fairman.
This concert also features the entire Senior class to honor all that they have done over the years as members of the orchestra community, and it showcases the hard work and dedication of all the students.
Senior Sarah Richards won an award that is voted based on who the students think put in the most effort and dedication into the orchestra program throughout their time at freeport high school.
“I liked it a lot, and it was a nice experience and getting to hear what people thought,” said winning senior violin, Sarah Richards.
At the end of the concert every year, the head of the orchestra departments, Mr. Benson and Mrs. Pallesen, decided to celebrate the orchestra department by having all of the 6th, 7th, 8th, and high school students play a song called “Generations” to show off all of the talents each generation of the program has.
The Freeport High School orchestra will perform for all of their senior peers at graduation this Sunday on the Freeport High School football field.
