Student Council and the Rising Pretzels Academy is hosting a food drive through Dec. 19 to help students who are food insecure due to the government shutdown which impacts SNAP benefits.

“It is for the need of our community,” Student Council Advisor Jacqueline Ogden said.
The food drive will be held at Freeport High School. People can help by dropping off non-perishable items such as power proteins, grains and sides, meal basis, fruits and vegetables, and hygiene products.
At FHS, donations can be dropped off to Lead Academy Dean Deontae Collier’s food closet in his office on the 2nd floor of FHS, or people can drop donations off at the Moseley Street entrance. Donations can also be dropped off at different locations in the community such as the YMCA, Bocker Auto Group, and the Boys and Girls Club.

The food drive also accepts cash and check donations. Monetary donations can be given to Collier or in the business office.
No donation is too small and the student council will appreciate anything anything that you can do to support the students, according to the group.
