At the end of November, Freeport experienced a winter storm with heavy snows of up to 12 inches. Students and staff at Freeport High School have recounted their worst snow experiences during their various winters.
Nathan Arendt
Nathan Arendt is a freshman science teacher at FHS. One day, Arendt was driving his friend home when he was warned that there was a patch of black ice ahead of him. His friend told him to slow down, but Arendt did not take that advice. His car then slid about 30 feet and hit his friend’s aunt’s car.
Myles Moore and Friends
Myles Moore is a sophomore at FHS. He and his friends Zach, Wesley, and Kiyren (all sophomores) went sledding together at Krape Park and formed what they call a “chain.” As the boys were going down the hill, a random kid came out of nowhere and ran in front of the sled. Wesley Loring screeched, “YO KID, GET OUT THE WAY!” Kiyren Prince Price described it as a pretty bad experience.
Brittany Janosik
Brittany Janosik is a freshman academy teacher at FHS. One time when she was driving, she was unable to stop at the stop sign. This caused her to collide directly with a school bus, which totaled her car.
Rick Eiler “Edog”
Rick Eiler “Edog” is a math teacher at FHS. He claims to have been cabin-bound when staying overnight in a forest cabin in Southern Illinois. The night he stayed there, it had snowed twenty-two inches, which trapped him there for two days. This experience upset Eiler because he had to resort to eating crickets, and it prevented him from going to McDonalds. He describes his experience as “life or death for Edog.” He was shivering, cold, and starving.
