On February 6th, the Freeport High School boys basketball team played a conference game at home against Boylan.
Heading into the game, Freeport had been 7-17, hoping to end their four-game losing streak.
Coach TJ Jackson says “Our defense is the key to victory, we have to focus on limiting second-chance opportunities every possession. We constantly remind our players to stay present and trust the work they put in – keep their composure.”
In the first quarter, Boylan was up 17-11. Freeport was trailing behind, working hard to get some points back.
During the second quarter, Freeport worked to close the gap, scoring 22, and Boylan scored 23. Boylan went into the half with a score of 40-33.
In the third quarter, Boylan kept it going, scoring 20 while Freeport trailed closely with 18.
The fourth quarter is where things really got going. Freeport scored 20 while Boylan scored 11, which led them into overtime, tied at 71.
In overtime, Freeport scored 8, and Boylan scored 5. Freeport finally ended up against Boylan, with a score of 79-75.
During the game, Senior Andrew Seward celebrated the milestone of his 1000th career point. Seward says, “Feels good to hit 1000 points, felt like all my hard work has paid out.”
Junior Kazion Morehead, had 30 points for the night. Morehead was asked how he focuses in such a close game, he said “I just trusted my preparation and my work.”
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but ultimately Freeport worked hard for the result they hoped for.
